Currently my garden is a little plot in front of my house where I and my five-year-old traipse about, pulling weeds and eating tomatoes. Well, I pull the weeds and my son eats the tomatoes, though he does bring me one now and then!
It's been quite the experience to set this former traditional holly landscaping into a garden. My husband doubted I would do it, and at times I doubted it too, but this year we now have about 100 feet of garden, 4 - 8 feet wide. Up the porch are gourds and morning glories. On either side of the stairs are symmetrically, Carson beans (yellow wax), melon plant, two tomato plants with borage and basil interspersed and a rosemary bush on either end (leaving a 5 ft hopeful diameter). In front of the garage, a triangular tomato teepee is in the center, with six tomato plants growing up the poles. Carrots, borage and basil line the edges, excepting the back where you can sneak in and get to the produce! A Spanish lavender is at the opposite point. Sunflowers and corn line the back with dill and chives in front. Peppers line the other side of the path around the teepee. Nasturtiums line the sidewalk, rosemary are on the outer edges, rhubarb sit a bit in the middle edges with some parsley and cilantro. Thyme and sage were new additions. The thyme did well but I fear the sage did not make it. At the beginning of July, pie pumpkins were added to a bare spot.
This is the start of our gardening journey, our supplies and projects.
